Color Theory Project

While making the scale, I was a little frustrated because I felt I could get a decent gradient. I then watched the example video and used the easer a little and it made a world of a difference. I already know I prefer paints over pencil/charcoal. I prefer color and just feel more expressive with it. The color wheel was fin and put me in a kid start of mind. I was also intrigued to learn that primary colors look more like light blue, pink, and yellow rather than red, blue, and yellow. The videos definitely helped. I also followed the color wheel process from the video to match my colors.

Elements and Principles

Photo Slide show

This project gave me the chance to use a new medium. I have never appreciated photography until now. I was able to capture very important parts of my life into upclose images and that provoked a positive emotional response. I was very happy with how my images turned out and hope to explore with my camera more. Instead of taking images for each principles, I took a bunch of pictures and found which image had the most prominent element or principle. This was difficult, only because I could identify more than one concept in each image. There were many that over lapped or and used different elements to develop different principles.

Color's relations to emotion

Various colors have various effects on the emotions. Red is a very intense color that draws attention. It send people into states of arousal, fight or flight, and sensitivity. For some it may signify danger;  other, sensuality. We all perceive colors in an emotional way for a reason. We link them to our experiences that create our perception of the world. Blue can be calming for people. It may resemble water to some and be more unsettling. Intensities of colors also affect our emotions. Higher intensities can be overwhelming and turn people away. The temperature of colors has affects as well. Warm colors are fiery and exciting, where as cool colors can be soothing. The link colors to emotions seemed slightly contridicting and complex, but so is the human psychology. People perceive differently because we all have different experiences that shape our psyche. It makes sense that color-emotion concept would be complex as well.

Color context is one of the theories that intrigues me the most because of its use in illusions. I already am interested in psychology, but I really love being able to see art use/affects in psychology. I think color context is the beginning of seeing how combinations of colors produce different attitudes and behaviors. The concept of color in general fascinates me but color context seemed to jump out the most. The amount of research there is based on color shocked me, but it inspired me to enjoy it more and form new connections with color knowing what I know now.

What intrigues me the most is that colors is simply the trick of light in our eyes. It's an illusion our mind creates, yet we are so in tune with color that it can have significant affects on emotions. I can look at a painting and cry or the color of a room can make me feel happy. But in actuality it's the reflection of light.

Aesthetics phiolosphy and creativity

In the videos, I learned about the history of the philosophy of aesthetics and about the relationship between neuroscience and aesthetics.
In the Aesthetics: the Philosophy of Arts video, I really enjoyed Schopenhaur's theory. His importance of music and it's means of conveying emotion through sound spoke to me. I have a deep connection with the music I enjoy and it is a daily influence of my life. I also appreciated that he made the point that everyone can have aesthetic experiences. Without aesthetics, one has not experienced a life and therefor has not lived. Schopenhaur was a 19th century philosopher.
In the CARTA video, Chageux was very difficult to understand. His work was informational but I had a difficult time following because it was very dry and the subtitles didn't always translate correctly. However, the point that viewing art gives us access to a global workspace was interesting. It reminded me of why we get inspiration form others works of art. The more we view are, the more we are able to create something that better communicates our perceptions through the language of art. Art is a language and the more we view the more "vocabulary" we gain.
Ramachandran's ideas were easier to follow. He was also comical in his speech which made the video easy to pay attention to. I like when Ramachandran said that creativity and an aesthetic process is a concept that is cross species. He used the example of the birds in the forest and how they arrange their "bachelor pad." I think that our sense of creativity, among all creatures, is part of what connects us.
The videos and text elaborated aesthetics a lot in relation to the textbook. At some points the videos where very dry, but the different information built on one another so it made it easier to grasp.

First Class Post

Creating the blog was a lot easier than I had anticipated. I actually am really happy I learn how to do this. My mom has wanted to start a blog and now I can help her with that!
I took an AED course last semester and learned a lot about different themes and how to analyze art the way it is in an academic or professional art setting.
I have enjoyed my online courses because it frees up my schedule and gives me the power to learn at my own pace with a general timeline. It also provides the flexibility with schedule. I have heard a lot about this course and so far I'm very interested in the different platforms used and the different assignments.
Something that resonated with me from the growth video was wondering if I'd fit in and moving away from home. My junior year of college when I transferred to Buff State, was the start of a low point. I look back now and question where it even started. I didn't put in any effort and avoided school. I now have a completely different view point and it still continues to change for the better. It's because I've become put effort into myself. I've reached out to others, realizing I'm not alone in insecurities. My creativity and what I found aesthetic in my life were my outlets. It all connected and I realized I will fit in if I'm true to myself. Through the course I hope to connect with that creativity and get inspiration.
